We\u2019ve all felt it\u2014that whisper of fear that says, \u201cMaybe I\u2019m not ready,\u201d \u201cWhat if I fail?\u201d or simply, \u201cI can\u2019t.\u201d I know I have. But what I\u2019ve learned is this: courage is not the absence of fear\u2014it\u2019s taking action in spite of it.<\/i><\/p>\n\n

The Moment I Said Yes to Change<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n


Years ago, I sat quietly in the back row of a Toastmasters meeting\u2014hands cold, heart pounding, silently praying no one would call on me. I watched others speak with confidence, humor, even grace, and I remember thinking, \u201cI could never do that.\u201d<\/i> I was the one with the shaky voice and more filler words than sentences. They even lovingly dubbed me the \u201cAh-Um Queen.\u201d<\/p>\n

But something shifted that night. As I listened to speaker after speaker push through their fears and own the stage, a small voice inside me whispered:<\/p>\n

\u201cInsanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.\u201d<\/i> \u2014 Albert Einstein<\/p>\n

That quote hit me like a jolt of truth. I realized I had spent years waiting for fear to leave before taking action. But what if fear wasn\u2019t the enemy\u2014what if it was the signpost?<\/p>\n

Another favorite quote echoed in my mind:<\/p>\n

\u201cCourage is not the absence of fear, but taking action in spite of it.\u201d<\/i> \u2013 T. Harv Eker<\/p>\n

That was it. My moment. I walked up to the membership table, fear and all, and signed up.<\/p>\n

And that one decision opened doors I never imagined.
<\/b><\/b>It didn\u2019t erase the fear\u2014but it redefined my relationship with it. And it\u2019s one of the bravest decisions I\u2019ve ever made.<\/p>\n\n

Life Has Its Own Plans<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n


Just when I thought I was getting comfortable again, life tossed us into a whirlwind. Within six months, my family and I had to relocate\u2014not once, but twice. First, we moved from Texas to Chicago for work. Then, just as we started settling in and my kids adjusted to new schools, we had to uproot again to North Carolina.<\/p>\n

It was overwhelming. I felt like I was failing to give my children the stability they deserved. I was juggling moving boxes, school transfers, work stress, and the weight of feeling ungrounded myself.<\/p>\n

But slowly, I began to see the gifts hiding in the chaos.<\/p>\n

Instead of asking \u201cWhy me?\u201d, I started asking, \u201cWhat is this trying to teach me?\u201d<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n

That simple shift changed everything. I remembered Martin Luther King Jr.\u2019s words:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ultimate measure of a person is not where they stand in moments of comfort, but where they stand at times of challenge.\u201d<\/i><\/i><\/p>\n

And I clung to the faith-filled wisdom of Joel Osteen:<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes you will not understand God\u2019s plan for you\u2026 but trust that you\u2019re being led to your place of blessing.\u201d<\/i><\/i><\/p>\n

Eventually, life brought us back to Texas\u2014our heart\u2019s home. And I realized, sometimes the detours are not delays\u2026 they\u2019re divine redirections.<\/p>\n\n

Lessons I Carry Forward<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n


In those seasons of discomfort and growth, I found a few practices that became my anchors:<\/p>\n

\u201cI am growing.\u201d
\u201cI\u2019ve done hard things before\u2014I can do this too.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/b><\/b>When an idea or opportunity nudges you, follow it. Even a small step can set big things in motion. The faster you act, the more confident you become.<\/p>\n
